Upwey People
Our mission statement and purpose sets out how we wish to serve as a central hub for Upwey where residents can connect, stay informed, and take action on local issues—from protecting our rare chalk stream to maintaining the vibrant spirit of Upwey with village events. We believe that by bringing together the diverse talents of our neighbors, we can ensure Upwey remains a thriving, sustainable, and welcoming place for generations to come.
A community is only as strong as its people. Whether you have five minutes a month or five hours a week, there is a place for everyone living in Upwey in our group. Here is how we work together to keep Upwey thriving.
The Committee
The Engine Room
Who they are: A small team of elected officers (Chair, Secretary, Treasurer).
Their Role: To manage the group's finances, handle legal requirements, and lead strategic planning.
Why we need them: They provide the structure and accountability required to ensure our funds are safe and our community goals are met year-after-year.
Members
The Voice of the Village
Who they are: Registered supporters who have a formal say in our direction.
Their Role: To attend our Annual General Meeting (AGM) and vote on key community decisions.
Why we need them: Numbers matter. When we speak to local councils or utility companies, having a large official membership gives our village a much louder, more influential voice.
Subscribers
The Pulse of the Community
Who they are: Residents and friends who receive our digital updates and newsletters.
Their Role: To stay informed and share local news with neighbors.
Why we need them: You are our reach! Without a strong subscriber base, our community alerts and success stories wouldn't have the impact they need to make a difference.
Volunteers
The Hands-on Heroes & Good Neighbours
Who they are: The "do-ers" who give their time to keep the village running and our residents supported.
Their Role: Village Projects: Helping with river clean-ups, bulb planting, or maintaining our local green spaces.
Group Events: Setting up the Memorial Hall for the Horticultural shows or marshaling at the Village Fair.
Neighbourly Support: Offering the "occasional helping hand" to neighbors who might be struggling—whether it’s moving a heavy box, changing a hard-to-reach lightbulb, or picking up a prescription during a bout of illness.
Why we need them: While big projects are important, the small acts of kindness are what make Upwey a true community. We need volunteers who are willing to be "on-call" for those little moments that make a massive difference to a neighbor’s day
